Industry & Government News

A word from the editor

In this edition, we bring you an update on events and developments within our vibrant tourism sector.

Last week, Team South Africa, led by SA Tourism CEO, embarked on a journey to the 2024 Internationale Tourismus-Börse (ITB) in Berlin, Germany, showcasing the diverse offerings our country holds for the business events sector. It was a testament to our commitment to positioning South Africa as a premier destination on the global stage.

Shifting our focus to sustainability, we applaud Adri Kruger of Tzaneen Country Lodge for receiving the prestigious "Celebrate Her Award" from the International Institute of Peace for Sustainable Tourism at ITB 2024. Her dedication mirrors the values we cherish as we navigate towards a more sustainable and responsible tourism industry.

In a significant development, the Minister of Transport, Sindisiwe Chikunga announced the substantial investment of R21.7 billion given to Airports Company of South Africa Limited (ACSA) earmarked for the development of airport infrastructure in Cape Town and Johannesburg. This substantial investment reinforces the pivotal role these international gateways play in welcoming foreign travellers to our beautiful country.

As we close, we invite you to discover new products and experiences, featuring an upcoming attraction in the Limpopo province. Keep an eye out for this exciting addition to our diverse tourism offerings.

Wishing you a fantastic week ahead!

Tzaneen Country Lodge Triumphs with Sustainability Award at ITB 2024!

Congratulations are in order Adri Kruger of Tzaneen Country Lodge in Limpopo province for receiving the prestigious "Celebrate Her Award" from the International Institute of Peace for Sustainable Tourism at the ITB 2024. This accolade recognises Ms. Kruger's outstanding commitment to sustainability, environmental conservation, and community upliftment.
Expressing her gratitude, Ms. Kruger said, "I am very honoured by the award because it acknowledges my passion for sustainable tourism. It encompasses not only nature conservation but also sustainability and community upliftment, all of which are essential to me."

Mr Ajay Prakash, President of the International Institute of Peace said: Adri's journey has been remarkable. It is an inspiring story of a journey of a property that started out as a four-roomed house and is now a lodge with a very impressive convention centre. I know it was not easy for her to do this. I also love that she has used local resources and empowered the local community in the process. I know her work will inspire other women and will teach them that nothing is impossible."

Situated in the enchanting Limpopo Province, Tzaneen Country Lodge, home to the award-winning hotel and luxurious Earth Spa, is nestled in the heart of the northeastern Lowveld. The lodge is strategically located just 95 km from the Phalaborwa Gate of the Kruger National Park, making it a gateway to one of the most beautiful regions in South Africa.

Adri Kruger proudly represented Tzaneen Country Lodge as one of the 63 exhibitors at the South Africa stand during the ITB 2024 trade show.

Team South Africa: Shaping the Future at ITB Berlin 2024

From hospitable people to majestic landscapes, vibrant township experiences to serene nature escapes, and from scenic wine routes to delectable and diverse dishes, the country was promoted in all its splendor.

South African Tourism presented a united front at the world’s largest travel trade show, ITB. Led by Chief Executive Officer Nombulelo Guliwe and joined by no fewer than 63 exhibitors, including 14 SMMEs representing diverse product offerings, Team South Africa attended ITB in a move targeted at boosting international arrivals to South Africa while sustaining the sector’s ongoing recovery and growth momentum.

Speaking on the sidelines of the trade show, Guliwe mentioned she had received positive feedback from the exhibitors on the stand who were upbeat and positive about the meetings they had.
