SATSA SECURA Traveller partnership delivers 'Peace of mind in your pocket' for travellers visiting South Africa

Promising “peace of mind in your pocket”, SATSA’s new SECURA Traveller initiative, in partnership with SECURA and SATIB, offers an affordable, innovative emergency medical and support service for travellers exploring the country.

Equipped with a panic button, either tangibly or accessible on one’s mobile phone, travellers are now connected to hundreds of emergency responders who are ready and equipped to assist in any emergency.

Says Hannelie du Toit, SATSA COO: “In an emergency, every second counts. We’ve tapped into SECURA’s on-demand smart tech security solution which connects a traveller swiftly with the largest network of armed and medical response companies across South Africa. When the panic button is activated, the technology automatically identified and dispatches the closest response unit to the user’s live GPS location. The response is faster and more accurate.”

This nationwide coverage is further supplemented by existing programmes at provincial and national levels as well as SATSA’s specialist support team of traveller ambassadors, translators, trauma counsellors and logistics facilitators.

How it works:

Step 1: The user activates “Panic Mode” via the app / panic button

Step 2: The control centre automatically notifies nearby emergency response vehicles

Step 3: The nearby emergency vehicle accepts the call out – much like “uber”

Step 4: The emergency responder is directed to the user’s live GPS location

Step 5: The control centre calls the user to confirm the “panic mode” activation and emergency call out

Step 6: The traveller’s safety is secured, and additional assistance is provided if necessary through the SATSA Travellers Support Fund

Interested tourism industry stakeholders can join SATSA for a webinar on 1 February at 15:00 (please RSVP here), or in the meantime access SECURA Traveller (from the Android or iPhone app centre). This can beshare this with customers and guests by embedding voucher codes (bought in bulk) into all their ticket sales or send the SECURA Traveller App details to travellers for voluntary download and direct purchase. Every download provides a contribution to the SATSA Travellers Support Fund. In the case of preferred embedded model, you benefit from the potential to earn commission.

The app is available at R49 per download and valid for a 30-day period. It’s a price you can choose to absorb or pass onto the traveller. At this price it really is a no-brainer!

“We can’t prevent the emergency, but we can control effective response and the aftercare that travellers receive. In fact, we have a duty of care to do so. Through our SATSA Travellers Support Fund, we offer support such as document replacement, clothing, accommodation, and transport. We also have a network of Traveller Ambassadors and translators who offer support and translation services if needed – a friendly face to help affected travellers through the process,” says Andre du Toit, SATSA Safety & Security Committee Chair.

With our links to provincial and local crisis groups, and assistance programmes such as Band-Aid in Western Cape and the Tourism Safety Programme implemented in Mpumalanga, SATSA is also able to organise trauma counselling and support for incident management and stakeholder communications.
