Cape Fox Tours owner, Jaco Powell, has emerged as a beacon of hope in his community, providing a silver lining in the face of the devastation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Like countless other operators, Jaco had to downsize his operations during the height of the pandemic, leading to the sale of vehicles, including one equipped with a hydraulic wheelchair lift for accommodating tourists who are differently abled.
As the industry began to recover, Jaco seized the opportunity to purchase a new vehicle. However, a setback ensued as the wheelchair lift from his previous vehicle did not fit the new one. It was at this moment that Jaco, driven by his longstanding connection with the Elizabeth-Conradie School (Elcon) in Kimberly, made a compassionate decision—he would donate the lift to the school. Jaco was aware of the daily struggles faced by students with mobility challenges who require physical assistance to enter a vehicle twice a day.
This week marked a significant milestone as the wheelchair lift was successfully installed in the school's vehicle. The addition of this essential equipment promises to make life considerably easier for these students, removing barriers and enhancing their mobility.
The act of generosity and kindness displayed by Jaco Powell deserves recognition and gratitude from the entire community. In a time when many have faced overwhelming challenges and uncertainty, Jaco's selfless gesture serves as a reminder that goodness can emerge even from the darkest of times.
SATSAÂ commends Jaco for his unwavering compassion and care for the community, and we recognise the vital role that members like Jaco play in not only driving the tourism sector forward but also contributing to the well-being of the communities they serve.
As the region continues its journey towards recovery, let us draw inspiration from Jaco's actions and strive to support and uplift one another. Together, we can build a brighter future where compassion and resilience prevail, fostering a sense of unity that transcends the challenges we face.
