SATSA Member Advisory: Operational Preparedness for 30 June 2026
SATSA is aware of reports of planned protest action in parts of the country on 30 June 2026. While the scale, location and impact of any protest action remain uncertain, members are encouraged to prepare operationally and to ensure that teams are appropriately briefed ahead of the day.
Based on the information currently available to SATSA and its members, there is no indication at this stage that tourism operations are likely to be disrupted. South Africa remains open for travel, and tourism businesses continue to operate.
SATSA recognises the right to lawful and peaceful protest. However, immigration enforcement is the responsibility of the state and must be handled through lawful, official processes. Any form of intimidation, violence, discrimination or vigilantism directed at individuals or communities has no place in South Africa and should not be normalised or excused.
The safety of visitors, staff and communities must remain the priority. Members are advised to take a precautionary, route-specific approach rather than make broad assumptions about national disruption.
Ahead of 30 June, SATSA recommends that members:
- Monitor verified updates from SAPS, local authorities, traffic services, airports, airlines and credible news sources.
- Check routes to and from airports, accommodation establishments, attractions, restaurants and transport hubs before travel.
- Allow additional travel time where necessary, particularly in major urban areas or areas where gatherings may be reported.
- Avoid areas where protest action, crowd build-up or road disruption is taking place.
- Follow the instructions of SAPS, metro police, traffic officials and other authorities on the ground.
- Ensure guides, drivers, transfer companies and operational teams have clear escalation procedures and updated emergency contact details.
- Keep client communication calm, factual and specific to confirmed information.
- Avoid sharing unverified reports, screenshots, voice notes or social media speculation.
- Reassure travellers that tourism activity continues, while confirming that routes and itineraries will be managed with safety in mind.
Members are further encouraged to review itineraries involving road transfers or urban movement on 30 June and to make practical adjustments where required. Where there is no verified disruption, normal operations should continue.
SATSA cautions against language or communication that presents isolated incidents or unverified reports as a reflection of the broader tourism environment. South Africa’s tourism sector relies on responsible, accurate communication, particularly when traveller confidence is sensitive.
Visitors from across the African continent and the world remain welcome in South Africa. African markets are central to South Africa’s tourism economy and must be protected through both responsible public messaging and safe, professional operations on the ground.
SATSA will continue to monitor developments and engage with relevant stakeholders.
Further updates will be shared should verified information indicate any material impact on tourism operations.
