Phase Two Now Open: Trusted Tour Operator Scheme Applications
Phase Two of the Trusted Tour Operator Scheme is now open for applications and has been gazetted by Home Affairs Minister Dr Leon Schreiber.
The aim of this initiative is to introduce a visa regime that will attract and promote tourism through simplified procedures and clear objectives.
The Scheme recognises tour operators, businesses, and organisations that demonstrate compliance with regulatory requirements in the tourism sector. It also focuses on operators with relevant experience in facilitating tour groups, and those who hold sufficient insurance to cover all travellers to South Africa, including providing continuous support and aftercare services.
Tour operators who did not submit applications during the initial intake are encouraged to apply during this second phase. This phase is particularly focused on increasing the number of tour operators catering to the Chinese and Indian tourist markets.
Tour operators wishing to apply have 30 days to submit their applications via the dedicated online portal, accessible through the department's website. Please note that paper-based applications will not be accepted.
As with the first intake, applications will be assessed by an interdepartmental team using Artificial Intelligence tools to vet and select successful participants.
The closing date for submissions is 30 days from publication date, which was 4 April 2025.
