The dates are confirmed! From 3 -12 July 2026, the Knysna Oyster Festival returns with 10 days of sport, great food, outdoor adventure and plenty to keep young minds entertained under this year’s theme: “A feast of family fun.”
The 2026 festival places families firmly at the centre of the celebration. Whether it’s lining up at the start of a race, exploring a market, tasting something new, or cheering from the sidelines, the programme is designed to offer meaningful experiences across generations.
Major sporting highlights such as the Knysna Forest Marathon and the Knysna Cycle Tour sit alongside community-focused events including mini hockey, football tournaments, family fun runs, oyster cooking and shucking championships, exhibitions, food markets and interactive activities for children and adults alike.
Children can dive into dedicated play areas and family events, while parents explore fine wine tastings, culinary showcases and outdoor adventures. Many events are spectator-friendly too - so even if you’re not racing, you’re still part of the action.
Lungiswa Goya, Manager: Economic Development at Knysna Municipality and spokesperson for the festival, says the theme reflects the evolution of the event.
“In 2026, our focus is firmly on families - creating opportunities for people of all ages to participate, connect and enjoy the diversity of events on offer,” explains Goya. “The programme includes activities suited to young children, teenagers, parents and grandparents, ensuring there is something meaningful and enjoyable for every generation. We encourage families to plan ahead, bring everyone along and make the most of 10 days designed to be experienced together in Knysna!”
The initial 2026 programme is available at www.oysterfestival.co.za. As the festival calendar continues to expand, visitors are encouraged to check back regularly for newly added events and updates and to follow the Knysna Oyster Festival on Facebook and Instagram.
With activities taking place across Knysna - from the Festival Hub at the Knysna High School Sports Fields to the forests, lagoon and neighbourhood venues - the town will once again come alive this winter!
