Important Advisory: Clarity on "South Africa Entry Permit" Website

Industry & Government News

We are aware of a website in circulation which claims that travellers from the United States must obtain an “Entry Permit” or Travel Declaration to enter/exit South Africa. This website also notes that a fee should be paid to obtain the Traveller Declaration via this website.

We have confirmed with SARS that this website is not affiliated with SARS. It is also not affiliated with the Department of Home Affairs, or any other official South African Government platform. To prevent confusion, we would like to provide you with accurate information to share with your clients and networks. We are also sharing an example of this website below.

South Africa Entry Form

The Facts regarding US Passport Holders:

  • Visa requirements: US passport holders visiting South Africa for up to 90 days for tourism or business purposes do not require a visa or entry permit.
  • Passport validity: Travellers must carry a valid machine-readable passport with at least two blank visa pages and a validity of at least 30 days beyond their departure date.
  • No SARS entry fees: There is no regulation or mandatory requirement for US travellers to pay SARS a fee for entry or exit. Any reference to such a fee is incorrect.
  • Traveller Declaration: SARS has introduced a digital Traveller Declaration system for goods and travel details. This system is currently voluntary but will become mandatory in due course. It is a customs declaration, not a visa or entry permit.
  • Exit fees: There are no SARS exit fees, to exit South Africa.

The “South Africa Entry Form” website appears to be a third-party service provider. It does not reflect official South African immigration requirements and is not an authorised government platform.
