Celebrating a decade of visionary leadership: A tribute to our CEO, David Frost

As we start heading to the end of 2023 and getting ready to celebrate another year of milestones and triumphs, there's one particular achievement that stands out:

David Frost's 10th anniversary as the CEO of SATSA.

While anniversaries often serve as a reflection of the passage of time, in this instance, it marks a decade of transformative leadership that has reshaped not just SATSA, but the broader landscape of tourism in Southern Africa.

Ten years ago, David took the helm of an organisation facing financial headwinds. Not only did he steer the ship away from stormy waters, but he also set it on a course toward uncharted territories of success. SATSA is no longer merely staying afloat; we're cruising with ambition, setting new industry standards, and achieving sustainable growth. It's not an exaggeration to say that we owe much of this resurgence to David's vision and unwavering commitment.

Leadership often comes with its set of challenges, and David has been at the forefront of lobbying with our government to advocate for favourable conditions for our industry. And he’s done this at times at great personal sacrifice. His resilience and tenacity have created ripples that extend beyond conference rooms and into the corridors of power, affecting policy and creating an enabling environment for all of us in the tourism sector.

But numbers and policies are only part of the story. What truly sets David apart is his ability to build and nurture a team that's as committed to SATSA's mission as he is. He has gathered around him individuals who reflect the diversity and richness of our country, placing transformation at the core of our organisation's ethos. His leadership style creates a sense of belonging—a feeling that SATSA is not just an association but a community where every voice is important, and every opinion matters.

David's influence isn't confined to board meetings and strategy sessions. He has provided mentorship and sage advice to thousands across the industry. His genuine passion for tourism and development has made SATSA a hub for growth, inspiration, and, yes, aspiration. David, as you celebrate this significant milestone, please know that your dedication and tireless work are not just acknowledged but deeply appreciated by each one of us at SATSA. It has been a hell of a ride the past 8- and three-quarter years and I couldn't have asked for a better person to do this journey with. As I have said before, you are often kinder to me than I am to myself. My life is much richer both professionally and personally because of you.
