Remuneration: R150 an hour for copy and content creation plus travel expenses

Job Description:

• Set up site visits with hotels, restaurants and attractions in your local area.
• Visit the sites, interviewing owners/managers about sustainability and ethicality.
• Write engaging copy of around 250 words per establishment.
• Create engaging video edited down to approximately 2 mins per establishment.
• Publish copy and content on the Greenwood Guides site.

Please note that these are not permanent positions. Greenwood Guides is seeking Regional Contributors who are permanently or mainly resident in the following areas:

• West Coast
• Karoo
• Garden Route
• Eastern Cape
• Kwa-Zulu Natal
• Mpumalanga
• Gauteng
• Limpopo
• North West Province

Minimum skills and technical requirements:

• Access to an internet-enabled device such a phone that can send and receive videos, stills and copy.
• Access to at least 4G internet (this doesn’t need to be permanent access and it doesn’t need to be where you live but it needs to be regularly accessible).
• Access to private transport (it doesn’t need to be your own transport) that’s got a 200km range so that you can contribute on a large enough area.
• Ability to write well (in any language) and ability to photograph and shoot and edit video well.

Preferred skills and technical requirements:

• Familiarity with Wordpress or ability to upload content and copy to the backend of the GG website (training will be given).
• Ability to use apps like InShot or similar to edit video.
• Have a bank account
• Have a portfolio of images or copy from any industry that we can use to assess your skill (e.g. an IG account or a personal website).

Minimum personal requirements:

• You need to spend (i.e. live full time) at least 3 months a year in the area you’ve chosen to contribute about. You can choose many areas as you like but you must be resident in that area for that time to fully engage with what there is to see and do in the area.
• You do not have to be local to South Africa (you may be visiting here) but preference will be given to those fluent in at least two South African languages
• An engaging personality happy to meet with people of all races, classes and backgrounds.
• A discriminating eye for quality and detail in food, hotels and activities.

Preferred personal requirements:

• Be a South African citizen fluent in at least one indigenous language of the area you’ve chosen to contribute on.
• Be a person of colour or in some other way marginalised (e.g. between ages of 16 and 25, over the age of 65, female, disabled).
• Have some experience in tourism, hospitality, content creation or similar.

 R150 an hour for copy and content creation plus travel expenses. Please note that these are not permanent positions and work can fluctuate depending on where more research and content is needed.
