Minister Engagement at Sho't Left Easter Campaign

The Minister of Tourism in South Africa, Honourable Patricia de Lille, took time out on Monday to be with members of the South African media and some local influencers. In the spirit of South African Tourism's Domestic Easter Campaign, Sho't Left's #SeatAtTheTable, Minister de Lille joined the media and influencers for lunch at the iconic Bo-Kaap area in the Western Cape where she also thanked them for their continued support and contribution to promoting domestic tourism thus contributing to the country's economy. The latest domestic performance numbers indicate that there was a total of 37,9 million domestic overnight trips taken by South Africans in 2023 marking an increase of 11,3% when compared to 2022.

Kenya Arrivals to SA Boom as Policy Regime Meets Marketing Prowess

In today's era of vital intercontinental connections, the recent surge in Kenyan tourism to South Africa underscores the impact of strategic policy changes and focused marketing efforts.

Since January 1, 2023, Kenyans have enjoyed visa-free travel to South Africa for up to 90 days a year. This policy shift signifies more than just bureaucratic change; it marks a significant step in fostering closer ties within Africa and facilitating easier travel and cultural exchange.

The impact has been substantial, with a notable increase in Kenyan visitors to South Africa. In 2023 alone, Kenya saw a 99% rise in arrivals compared to 2022, reaching 42,403 visitors. This surge in tourism has brought economic and cultural benefits, showcasing the importance of tourism as a driver of revenue, job creation, and international relations.

South African Tourism's targeted marketing campaigns, particularly in Kenya, have played a crucial role in this success. Campaigns like "There's So Much More to See" have resonated with Kenyan audiences, leveraging digital platforms, and achieving impressive engagement metrics.

The collaboration between South Africa and Kenya has been key to this achievement, exemplified by strategic partnerships in the aviation and hospitality sectors. The codeshare agreement between Kenya Airways and SAA, enabling direct flights between Nairobi and major South African cities, has enhanced accessibility and stimulated tourism.

Looking ahead, South African Tourism aims to build on this success through further marketing campaigns and collaborations, fostering deeper cultural understanding and economic growth across the continent. This success story serves as a testament to the transformative power of innovative policies and collaborative efforts in unlocking Africa's tourism potential.
