Babanango Game Reserve Opens a New Gateway to the Wild with Approved Eagle’s View Airstrip
Press Release supplied by Babanango Game Reserve, 1 September 2026
Babanango Game Reserve has reached an important milestone with the official approval of Eagle’s View Airstrip, creating a new and more convenient way for guests to access one of KwaZulu-Natal’s most remarkable wilderness destinations.
Eagle’s View Airstrip offers the opportunity for guests to fly directly into Babanango Game Reserve, reducing road transfer times and creating a seamless fly-in safari experience.
The Type A Aerodrome, located within Babanango Game Reserve in Zululand, was approved by the South African Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on 24 August 2026. The new air access option significantly strengthens Babanango’s position as an easily accessible Big Five safari destination, particularly for international visitors, private travellers and guests looking to maximise their time in the bush.
Fly in. Land on the wild side.
For guests travelling from further afield, the airstrip provides the potential to combine scheduled or chartered air travel with a private safari experience, arriving directly on the reserve rather than undertaking a lengthy road transfer. “Ease of access is an important part of the safari experience,” says Darryl Erasmus, Chief Commercial Officer.
“Our new airstrip brings guests closer to the reserve from the moment they arrive. It opens exciting possibilities for fly-in safaris, private charters and more seamless itineraries for both domestic and international travellers.”
Babanango Game Reserve offers a diverse lodge portfolio, from the flagship ultra-luxury Madwaleni River Lodge and romantic Zulu Rock Lodge to the family-friendly Babanango Valley Lodge, self-catering Matatane Camp, and immersive walking safari experience at Ogomeni Trails Camp. Together, the lodges offer something for every safari traveller, from luxury escapes and family adventures to intimate, authentic wilderness experiences. The reserve is ideal for leisure travellers, private groups, corporate and incentive travel, special-interest groups and bespoke safari programmes.
A new way to experience Babanango
With almost 21,000 hectares of rewilded wilderness, Babanango offers a distinctly different safari experience in the heart of Zululand. The reserve combines exceptional landscapes, wildlife and conservation with superb collection of camps, lodges and experiences. The addition of Eagle’s View Airstrip represents another step in making the reserve more accessible while retaining the sense of remoteness that defines the Babanango experience.
