Minister of Tourism, Derek Hanekom has invited tourism stakeholders and the public to comment on the recently published Tourism Amendment Draft Bill. This allows for tourism stakeholders and citizens to participate in the drafting of tourism legislation.
The Tourism Act, 2014 remains the legislative framework for the management and growth of tourism. It aims for the development and promotion of sustainable tourism for the benefit of the country and the enjoyment of its citizens and visitors. In addition, it provides for marketing of the country as a tourist destination and the promotion of quality products and services.
The purpose of the Tourism Amendment Draft Bill is to amend the Tourism Act, 2014 so as to provide:
- For the alignment of the governance of the South African Tourism Board;
- For the implementation of the grading system of South African Tourism;
- For the competence requirements of tourists guides; and
- For the determination on the threshold for short-term dwelling rentals.
