SATSA members recently attended the South African Tourism India Roadshow with great success experienced by many.
In 2017, South Africa received close to 100 000 Indian tourist arrivals, making this an excellent market for our members to invest in. The roadshow is only open to exhibitors who are either SATSA members or TGCSA graded establishments and is one of the biggest trade initiatives by SAT India, visiting a total of five Indian cities.
The success rate from South African product is evident. This year’s show was the fifth one for Thomas Ngomana, from Face Adrenaline, who says the roadshow was absolutely worth it and the numbers prove that. “Looking back at 2013 we thought 200 pax from India was a lot, it is amazing to see that we now receive close to 12 000.” He estimates that this number is set to increase for 2018 with a few bookings already coming through from the Indian trade he met.
Evelyn Pepler, from Ocean Odyssey, found the roadshow particularly beneficial in terms of educating trade on the lesser known small towns rich in adventure activities. “I keep returning to make sure that Knysna is represented as a brilliant area for boat-based whale watching and to highlight that there is much more to be offered here.”
Thomas adds that the roadshow provides an excellent platform to connect and form relationships with South African DMCs and tour operators. “Without the DMCs it would be a mission. The groundwork they do is incredible and marketing our product as a drawcard to South Africa helps us with our marketing efforts as well.”
SATSA will collate feedback on lessons learnt from this 2018 roadshow and will share it with South Africa Tourism, but we do want to say a BIG well done to South African Tourism India for a successful 2018 roadshow!
