Strengthen Human Rights in Tourism Operations – Free Report and Learning Hub
On 22 October 2025, Fair Trade Tourism, SATSA, and the Roundtable Human Rights in Tourism (with Africa’s Eden) unpacked the findings of an 11-day tourism impact assessment conducted by the Roundtable across Cape Town, Johannesburg, and the Greater Kruger area.
The assessment revealed four critical challenges:
- Job creation and upskilling, especially for youth
- Workers’ rights
- Children’s rights, with a focus on child labour and sexual exploitation
- Fair pricing and contract design in the supply chain
The results of the Tourism Impact Assessment South Africa 2025 were compiled into a report outlining the key issue areas, risk factors, legal requirements, practical challenges, measures to take, and good practice examples for tourism operators and stakeholders to use in their own businesses.

Educate Yourself on Human Rights
One of the follow-up initiatives of the assessment was the creation of a central tourism training repository, and Fair Trade Tourism was contracted by the Roundtable to research, compile, and host this resource.
The hub includes:
- Resources such as courses, webinars, PDF guides, and more
- Categories and tags touching on human rights, children's rights, fair work, and other sustainable tourism topics (such as energy, water and waste management)
- Direct links to external online learning platforms
