Programme Details Timeline

Proposed programme details and timeline as follows (please note that dates may change)

  • Database development based on registrations received by 15 December 2016
  • Selection committees, made up of provincial and national stakeholders, will select 30 trade-relevant SME products per province on 20 December 2016 for Gauteng, Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape, and on 18 January 2017 for Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Free State, North West and Northern Cape
  • Successful SMEs will be contacted and invited to attend training on 21 December 2016 for Gauteng, Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape, and on 19 January 2017 for Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Free State, North West and Northern Cape
  • The five-day training course will take place in the main metropolitan area of each province as follows:
    1. Gauteng: 23 to 27 Jan 2017   
    2. Western Cape: 30 Jan to 3 Feb 2017
    3. KwaZulu-Natal: 6 to 10 Feb 2017
    4. Eastern Cape: 13 to 17 Feb 2017
    5. Limpopo: 20 to 24 Feb 2017
    6. Mpumalanga: 27 Feb to 3 Mar 2017
    7. Free State: 6 to 10 Mar 2017
    8. North West: 13 to 17 Mar 2017    
    9. Northern Cape: 27 to 31 Mar 2017  
  • Following each provincial training session, the selection committees will again select the top 10 most relevant / trade-ready products per province to continue with mentorship, speed marketing and Indaba attendance
  • Successful SMEs will be contacted and invited to attend a provincial mentorship introduction workshop on the Tuesday following each provincial training course
  • A provincial mentorship introduction workshop will be hosted for successful operators to introduce them to their respective trade mentors and to set the parameters for the mentorship on the Thursday following each provincial training course. A film crew will also attend each introduction workshop to film operators and gather photos to be used for a promotional video
  • All successful operators will receive six-week peer-to-peer mentorship to prepare for trade platforms ending with the last province on 5 May 2017
  • Successful operators will be invited by South Africa Tourism to attend and exhibit at the annual Tourism Indaba
  • A speed marketing event will be hosted on 15 May 2017 during which the 90 successful operators will be directly introduced to 45 established trade members. To ensure meaningful interaction, the event programme will be developed to focus on group speed marketing with two complementary products presenting to each trade member for seven minutes. The day will end with a cocktail event for further networking
  • Successful operators will be featured as part of South African Tourism’s Hidden Gems programme during the annual Tourism Indaba between 16 and 18 May 2017
  • A post-event survey will be conducted with all successful operators to gauge relationships established, sales concluded and in pipeline and overall event feedback. Responses to be received by 26 May 2017
