Wondrous wildlife, thrills and spills, leaping and laughing, wet and dry, ancient history, warm hospitality, exploring cultures, making memories …

Few parts of the world can match Kruger Lowveld for its natural and cultural diversity or for the genuine warmth of the welcome given to each and every visitor to the region. Take a look around our website to find out why we remain – and will forever be – South Africa’s premier inland tourism destination.

The biggest game territory imaginable, the Lowveld boasts spectacular scenery, endless adventures and spellbinding wildlife experiences. Dominated by the Blyde River Canyon – the world’s third-deepest gorge; the Sudwala Caves – the world’s oldest; and the Kruger National Park – arguably the world’s most famous wildlife sanctuary. From hot-air ballooning to a gentle sport of hippo-watching, the Lowveld offers endless activities and adventures.

Kaapschehoop lies in the hills just 25kms out of Nelspruit, a landscape resplendent with gushing waterfalls and indigenous forests where wild horses roam.

And if hiking and horse riding are your idea of a good time, then you’ve certainly come to the right place. The small gold mining town is situated right next to the Berlin forest, owned by the Komatiland Forestry Company. The Kaapschehoop Hiking Trail meanders through its grounds, past plantations, rugged hillsides and sites of historical interest.

Choose between different options ranging from two to five nights, with the shortest trail stretching for 19km, while the longest will take you across 55km of incredible Lowveld scenery. Start at either Barretts Coaches, or the Kaapschehoop Hut in town.

You’ll share this outdoor haven with the wild horses Kaapschehoop is famous for, but you’ll also get the chance to ride the well-mannered and well-kept horses of Kaapschehoop Horseback Trails through the plantations.

The truth is, you don’t need a reason to love the Lowveld, but if you did, you’d have more than seven listed before you could say “Mpumalanga”. It’s got everything you need, something to satisfy every sense. Nevertheless, we duly uttered “Mpumalanga” and, before we knew it, had come up with the seven reasons to love the Lowveld.
