Dear SATSA Members
Following the SATSA AGM, the NPC recently held its first board meeting in Johannesburg where a new Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson and Treasurer were elected.
I am honoured to have been re-elected to take the lead at SATSA as the Chairperson. Joining me as Vice-Chairperson is Tony Romer-Lee (PMR Hospitality) and as Treasurer is Martin Jansen van Vuuren (Grant Thornton).
Through a special resolution, the board also co-opted the following members:
• Belinda McIntyre (Tsogo Sun)
• Iain Meaker (Comair Limited)
• Brett Jury (Bidvest Bank)
• Hapiloe Sello (South African National Parks)
• Jabu Masatile (Buja Tours)
Furthermore, the re-establishment of a SATSA Southern Cape Chapter was adopted. An interim committee has been established and Peter Dros (Fancourt) is acting as the interim Chapter Chairperson until such time as the Chapter AGM is held.
I would like to officially welcome all the above members, who join myself, the elected board members and the SATSA Secretariat in navigating our newly adopted MOI and working hard to fulfil the mission and objectives of SATSA.
One of the calls to action from members during the SATSA AGM was for the board to deliberate on a way forward regarding the Concerned Members. The board, appreciating the context and nature of the complaints, and rather than initiating disciplinary proceedings, has decided to adopt a conciliatory approach by inviting the Concerned Members to an enquiry. Once these members have been afforded an opportunity to make presentations, a decision will be taken as to whether or not formal disciplinary proceedings should be instituted.
As you might also be aware, our Gauteng Chapter did not hold an AGM ahead of the National AGM at Spier. As a result, the Gauteng Chapter finds itself without a Chapter Committee, Chapter Chairperson or Vice-Chairperson. In order to remedy the situation, and as agreed at the board meeting, the Secretariat will shortly address a notice for the Gauteng Chapter AGM where a Chapter Committee will be elected by Chapter Members.
A number of exciting new partnerships and benefits were discussed at the board meeting and we are looking forward to sharing these and other strategic initiatives with you in the near future.
